Clubul Sportiv Gaz Metan Mediaș is a Romanian professional football club from Mediaș, Sibiu county, founded in 1945, and currently playing in the Romanian first division.

History

First promotion in Divizia A

In a competition organized during the war, between 1943–1944, Devices and ASAM (Automecanica) in 1944 will establish KARRES team belonging leather and shoes factory in town. In 1946 this team already promoted in Division "B" finished a respectable 2nd place team from Cluj Dermatology, place that gave him the right to participate in the dam to promote the forefront. It took place in Bucharest and he also participated Textile Buhuși, Politehnica Timișoara and Arad AMEFA. The team managed to promote from the dam in Division "A", 1947–1948 edition, where the class to end the season on a respectable place 12 of 16 participants. Edition of the championship of Division "A" 1948–1949, the team has named the CSMM and Red Dawn (from the factory Vitrometan).

Takeover to Gaz Metan

Since the return of that championship team was taken over by Gaz Metan, but the championship had already been compromised and thus leaves the first echelon team. During this time the team consisted of: Kodacek – Sulyák – Szabó – Șerban – Molnár – Rașinaru – Pop – Coman – Guta – Szabó – Pologea. But this year the football team stands mediesan female, who is national champion. The band consisted of: Szűcs (Juhász)- Müller – Horváth – Tímár – Pologea – Motocea – Albu – Bagaceanu – Gaber – Costea – Munteanu.

A Cup Final

In 1951, the team named ‘’Flacăra Mediaș‘’ managed the highest performance in club history, appearing in the final of the Romanian Cup. They lost in overtime to CCA București 3–1 (0–0, 2–1, 3–1). The team that played the final was the following: Várday – Luca – Szabó – Dumitrescu – Molnár – Costea – Pop – Pápay – Coman – Szász – Moldovan – Manager: Ștefan Dobay. For Gaz Metan, Coman scored in the 71st minute.

Downfall

Gaz Metan team still participated in the championship Divizia B, occupying the middle ranking places until 1972, when relegated for the first time in Divizia C. Immediate promotion division follows a "B", where they develop until 1976, when relegated for the second time in the third echelon. Again promotes "B" next year, where it remains until 1992, when for the third time relegated to Division "C". Advertise in "B", where it remains until 2000, when promoted to Divizia A. Unfortunately, the team did not last but a year in the first echelon, relegating in Division "B". But in the same year 2001, the youth team coached by Purina and Cenan became national champion.

Gaz Metan under Cristian Pustai

The 2010–11 season was the club's 6th season in Romania's top football division and their best classification in the history after finishing in 7th position. Following the rejected licence for Politehnica Timișoara, they were given the vacant Europa League spot in the second qualifying round. Moreover, the club had the second top goalscorer of the league: Eric Pereira with 15 goals.

Stadium

The team plays its home games on the Municipal Gaz Metan Stadium. The stadium recently underwent a renewal and development, by seeding new grass and building a bigger B stand, bringing its capacity at 8.500 seats. By having a modern drainage system under the turf, the modern light system, and the bigger capacity, this is one of the biggest stadiums in central Transylvania.
